Gold at the 2026 Totara Awards for Bayernwerk Akademie

Bayernwerk Akademie and LearnChamp won gold in the Best Extended Enterprise Solution category at the 2026 Totara Awards. The award recognizes their joint learning platform, which brings training and continuing education together with the management of qualifications and competencies in one central place.

The solution connects employees, partner firms, and external organizations, creating a cross-company qualification ecosystem. It links learning, competency development, and qualification management across organizational boundaries, making an important contribution to securing skilled talent and to the successful delivery of the energy transition.

What was the project about?

Since 2024, Bayernwerk Akademie GmbH has been connecting knowledge holders into a single network for the energy transition. Its mission is to help people and organizations build the competencies needed for the energy transition in a targeted, transparent, and efficient way.

At the heart of it is Totara's digital learning platform. On it, the Akademie combines continuingBadge_2026_best-extended-enterprise-solution_gold education, competency management, qualification records, and seminar organization in one system. This lets organizations manage qualifications and competencies far more easily and transparently.

Previously, training management and qualification records were spread across different systems, spreadsheets, and manual processes. Keeping an overview of competencies, especially across company boundaries, was correspondingly time-consuming. Building on the Totara solution, LearnChamp and the Akademie developed many additional features tailored specifically to the energy sector.

In high-risk grid operations in particular, verifiable qualifications are indispensable. Work on critical infrastructure requires proven technical competencies to ensure safety and meet regulatory requirements. At the same time, the energy transition is increasing the need for qualified specialists. Companies therefore have to build competencies faster and develop them more deliberately. Together with LearnChamp, Bayernwerk Akademie developed a multi-tenant platform for internal and external audiences on the basis of Totara. It brings learning, competency management, qualification records, and seminar logistics together in one central system.

What the platform delivers today

Since its launch in early 2024, the platform has grown into a key building block of Bayernwerk Akademie's qualification strategy. Today, around 10,000 active users from 411 organizations use the solution, from companies in the Bayernwerk Group to partner firms, municipalities, and other players in the energy industry.

In 2025 alone, Bayernwerk Akademie organized more than 1,335 seminars with over 23,000 enrollments through the platform. The solution makes competencies visible, supports targeted qualification, and helps prepare people more quickly for the demands of an increasingly electrified, digital, and sustainable energy world.

The gold award at the 2026 Totara Awards confirms this success and underlines the role of Bayernwerk Akademie as a central qualification hub for the Bayernwerk Group and its partner network.
