Totara 19.1 introduces four integrated AI tools designed to accelerate content creation and improve learning workflows:
Use prompts to generate or summarize learning content directly in the course editor—ideal for writing course descriptions, overviews, or learning objectives faster.
Generate course-specific images without graphic design tools. The images are automatically tagged with alt text to support accessibility compliance.
Learners can define well-structured SMART goals inside Totara Perform with guided prompts, improving clarity and consistency in performance development plans.
Admins can turn existing learning resources into informal quizzes that help learners reflect on content. Results are anonymous, supporting a safe environment for practice.
These tools are available via Totara’s OpenAI integration and can be extended to other LLM providers with custom development.
Totara now makes it easier for learners to find the right content—even if they misspell a word or only remember part of a title.
Partial-word matching in search queries
Spellcheck suggestions
Wildcard support (e.g. "man*er" finds "manager", "maneuvering")
Enhanced recommendations: Programs and certifications are now included in the “Recommended for you” block alongside courses and resources.
You can also exclude archived courses from the catalogue while keeping them available via links or programs.
Yes. One of the most anticipated updates: learners can now self-enrol or withdraw from programs and certifications—directly from the catalogue.
This promotes self-directed learning and significantly reduces admin time, especially in scalable or compliance-driven environments.
The mobile app has been improved to support flexible, on-the-go learning:
Learners can now download entire courses (if built with supported activities) and learn offline.
Search-as-you-type and catalogue filters provide faster content discovery.
Progress indicators show learners what’s in progress, completed, or new.
These updates make Totara especially effective for deskless workers and field teams who need access outside the office.
Totara 19.1 continues to reduce repetitive tasks for LMS administrators:
Dashboard ordering and filtering: Makes it easier to manage large numbers of dashboards—especially in multi-tenant setups.
Digital seminar attendance: Learners check in via secure links or QR codes. This improves tracking, supports compliance, and eliminates manual lists.
Performance access control: Admins can remove access to closed performance activities or automate it based on job role changes.
Yes. Totara’s integration capabilities have expanded with:
New APIs for seminar events and reporting
Webhook support for real-time updates (e.g. push course completions)
More triggers for Workato, enabling powerful workflows across HRIS, CRM, and communication platforms
These updates help IT teams create seamless data flows between Totara and existing business systems.
Totara 19.1 addresses core challenges faced by today’s learning leaders:
Faster content creation with generative AI
More autonomy for learners, reducing friction and boosting engagement
Stronger analytics and integration, helping IT and L&D align with business goals
Scalable mobile and offline access for hybrid workforces
Simplified admin processes, freeing up time for strategic initiatives
Whether you're building a future-proof LMS ecosystem or optimizing existing workflows, these updates are built for enterprise needs.
